We use "sukumo" in our aizome (Japanese Indigo Dyeing) workshops. Sukumo is a natural, traditional Japanese dye made from fermented indigo leaves. (See the "About" page for more information)
Sukumo is a very special dye that is difficult to obtain in the U.S. We encourage you to take this opportunity to give it a try.
Each workshop will feature different dyeing techniques and materials (see online booking for more information). Each session will be a new and fun experience.
In addition to the materials provided, you can bring your own items such as 100% cotton T-shirts for dyeing (please contact us for information on additional fees).
Please attend the workshops in clothes you wouldn't mind getting dirty.
It may be a good idea to bring an apron for additional coverage (we will provide rubber gloves).
Sukumo kits are available for purchase (cash only) during the workshops. It's perfect for people who want to try making it at home. Please contact us for details.
